In a written statement addressing recent security incidents, Üstel said claims seeking to shift responsibility and deliberately associate the incidents with Ankara do not reflect the truth and constitute a clear attempt to mislead public opinion, harming social harmony.

“Security and public order are, without question, the responsibility of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus within its own constitutional framework,” Üstel said. “Efforts to divert this responsibility elsewhere serve no purpose other than political calculation. The fundamental duty of the state is to take all necessary preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not occur and to protect public order with determination.”

Üstel noted that the Security Forces Command and the Police Force intervened promptly and decisively in the recent incidents, apprehending the perpetrators in a short time and bringing them before justice. He said this demonstrated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is strong, resolute and fully on duty.

Stating that the government would not allow security to become a subject of political polemics, Üstel said legislation aimed at increasing deterrence in the fight against crime has been submitted to Parliament, adding that further, more effective laws would soon be introduced. He said stronger steps would be taken against any elements threatening public order.

Üstel underlined that statements targeting state institutions, undermining the efforts of security forces or seeking to create fear in society would not be tolerated. “State seriousness is ensured not by producing perceptions, but through law and determination,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Üstel said the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus exists, is strong, and is carrying out its duties with all its institutions, adding that the peace and security of the public would not be subjected to debate for any political consideration and that confidence in the security forces remains complete.
