Suspect In Larnaca Stabbing Arrested In Morphou, Handed Over To South Cyprus
A 30-year-old man wanted in connection with an attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Larnaca has been arrested in Morphou in the northern part of the island and handed over to South Cyprus, it was reported.
According to Alithia and other newspapers, citing statements from the Greek Cypriot police and reports in the press in Northern Cyprus, the suspect, identified as Stelios Georgiou, was located after a manhunt and detained by police in the north.
Larnaca Police Director Giorgos Haralambous said yesterday that the suspect, wanted for allegedly stabbing a Greek Cypriot man who was found injured on a road in Larnaca, had been arrested by police in Northern Cyprus and subsequently handed over to the Larnaca police.
Haralambous stated that the suspect was apprehended in the north and, following procedures carried out through the bicommunal committee, was transferred into the custody of the Larnaca police. He confirmed that the suspect remains in detention.
The newspaper reported that the suspect is expected to be brought before a court, while the injured man is still receiving treatment in hospital and is not in a life-threatening condition.
It was also noted that media in Northern Cyprus reported that the suspect had been arrested in the Morphou area.
In addition, the report said that a search of the house rented by the injured man led to the discovery of various quantities of illegal drugs.
