The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) met with the Restaurateurs Association (RES-BİR) to comprehensively address the problems facing the restaurant sector and possible solutions.

CTP Chairwoman Sıla Usar Incirli listened to the demands and proposals of the Restaurateurs Association and underlined the importance and added value of the restaurant sector for the country.

“Restaurants are very important not only in terms of the added value they create and employment, but also for the development of tourism,” Incirli said, noting that the party closely follows the sector’s problems.

She added that many problems in the country continue simultaneously and that the government no longer has the capacity to resolve them, stating that the only step the government should take for the benefit of the country is to set a date for early elections.

The Restaurateurs Association said the sector is struggling with many problems, particularly after suffering heavy losses during the pandemic, the effects of which are still being felt. The association noted that the sector has become unsustainable due to high input costs and said it cannot compete with Southern Cyprus because of lower production costs there.

It also stressed that current meat prices are placing serious pressure on the restaurant sector and proposed the establishment of a joint platform bringing together all sectors.

CTP Chairwoman Sıla Usar Incirli was accompanied at the meeting by Secretary-General Mehmet Kale Kişi, MPs Filiz Besim and Fide Kürşat, and CTP Central Executive Board member and Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul.

The Restaurateurs Association delegation included President Arif Bayraktar and members of the association’s executive board.
