54 Per Cent Of Greek Cypriots Support Federal Solution, 28 Per Cent Oppose It

According to a survey conducted by Politis newspaper, 54 per cent of respondents support a bi-zonal, bi-communal federal solution to the Cyprus problem, while 28 per cent are opposed. The poll also shows that 46 per cent approve of the performance of Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on the Cyprus issue.

Politis published the second part of a public opinion survey carried out by Noverna Analytics ahead of the general elections scheduled for May. The survey examined views on Christodoulides’ performance as well as levels of trust in institutions.

63 Per Cent Disapprove Of Christodoulides’ Domestic Governance

When asked about Christodoulides’ performance in domestic governance, 63 per cent of participants said they disapproved, while 30 per cent approved and 7 per cent responded “don’t know/no answer.”

55 Per Cent Approve Of His Foreign Policy Performance

Regarding foreign policy, 55 per cent said they approved of his performance, while 39 per cent disapproved and 6 per cent answered “don’t know/no answer.”

On the Cyprus issue specifically, 46 per cent said they approved of his actions, while 44 per cent disapproved and 10 per cent replied “don’t know/no answer.”

Only 21 per cent approved of his performance in combating corruption, while 72 per cent disapproved and 7 per cent gave no clear answer.

In response to the question of whether corruption had increased compared to the Anastasiades administration, 57 per cent said it had remained the same, 31 per cent said it had increased, 10 per cent said it had decreased, and 2 per cent said they did not know or gave no answer.

54 Per Cent Support Federal Solution

Asked whether they support or oppose a bi-zonal, bi-communal federal solution within the framework discussed at the 2017 Crans-Montana talks, 54 per cent said they were in favour, 28 per cent said they were against, and 18 per cent responded “don’t know/no answer.”

Trust In Parliament And Lawmaking

To the question “Do you trust parliament as an institution?”, 53 per cent replied “no,” 43 per cent replied “yes,” and 4 per cent said “don’t know/no answer.”

When asked whether laws passed by parliament serve the public interest, 46 per cent said “a little,” 33 per cent said “sufficiently,” 3 per cent said “a lot,” 16 per cent said “not at all,” and 2 per cent gave no response.

Economic Outlook

On their personal economic situation over the past year, 60 per cent said it had remained the same, 24 per cent said it had worsened, 15 per cent said it had improved, and 1 per cent said “don’t know/no answer.”

Regarding expectations for the next year, 56 per cent said their personal economic situation would remain the same, 21 per cent said it would worsen, 16 per cent said it would improve, and 7 per cent gave no response.

Asked about expectations for the country’s overall economic situation in the coming year, 41 per cent said it would remain the same, 30 per cent said it would worsen, 21 per cent said it would improve, and 8 per cent answered “don’t know/no answer.”
