Incirli Calls on Government to Withdraw and Reassess Fiber Optic Protocol
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Sila Usar Incirli has called on the government to withdraw the fiber optic protocol currently being debated in the General Assembly and to reassess it before proceeding further.
Speaking during the marathon parliamentary session that began at 6:15 p.m. on Monday and continued into today, Incirli said the protocol signed between the TRNC and Turkey should be pulled back for reconsideration.
Addressing the assembly, Incirli argued that while the country clearly needs a modern fiber optic infrastructure that is fast and affordable, the current protocol contains serious shortcomings. She said no one objects to the development of fiber infrastructure itself, but criticized the method outlined in the agreement.
According to Incirli, the protocol includes provisions for procurement without a tender process and disregards local institutions, engineers and technical staff. She questioned how such a project could be implemented without giving priority to the country’s own human resources and sectors.
She also accused the government of failing to inspire public confidence and of attempting to advance the protocol despite unresolved concerns. Incirli said lawmakers from her party had been raising the issue since the previous day and claimed that growing public reaction reflected widespread unease over the agreement.
Describing the government as ineffective, Incirli stated that the protocol contained unclear elements that could harm state institutions if adopted in its current form. She warned that insisting on passing the bill would unnecessarily heighten social tension.
Repeating her call at the end of her address, Incirli urged the government not to push the protocol through parliament, saying it should be withdrawn and evaluated again to determine how the project could be implemented in the most appropriate way.
