Ercan Airport Strike Over ‘Turk Telekom Protocol’ Postponed For 60 Days After Flights Halted
A strike launched at Ercan Airport in protest against the government-signed “Turk Telekom Protocol” has been postponed for 60 days by a Cabinet decision, after flight operations were temporarily brought to a standstill.
According to information obtained by Kıbrıs Postası, workers at Ercan Airport began strike action at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, causing all aircraft arrivals and departures to be suspended for a period.
The strike was part of a wider wave of industrial action triggered by opposition to the “Turk Telekom Protocol” signed by the UBP–DP–YDP coalition government, which has sparked heated debate in parliament and protests by several trade unions across different sectors.
Following the disruption at the airport, the Council of Ministers intervened and decided to postpone the strike. The decision was published in the Official Gazette, stating that the strike at Ercan Airport has been deferred for 60 days.
