PM Ustel: What We Have Achieved in Four Years Equals 30 Years of Work

Ustel was speaking at a gathering organised by the Women’s Branch of the UBP Nicosia District. The event was attended by a large number of party members and supporters, including Ustel’s wife, Zerrin Ustel. In his address, the prime minister reviewed his government’s record over the past four years and outlined goals for the new period.

Achievements and Commitments

Ustel said legal reforms benefiting public employees and self-employed workers had been implemented, stressing that his government had acted with determination rather than populism. He underlined that all major commitments made since taking office had been honoured.

Digital Transformation and Fibre Infrastructure

Referring to the fibre-optic agreement signed with Turkish Telecom, Ustel said that once the legislation is approved by parliament, internet speeds will increase significantly, strengthening the youth sector, universities and tourism.

Projects Implemented with Turkey

Ustel recalled that the water supply project began during the terms of Irsen Küçük and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noting that water has now been delivered across the country. He also said that the Nicosia ring road and several long-delayed projects were completed during his administration.

Transport and Health Investments

Ustel stated that passenger numbers at Ercan Airport had risen by nearly 50 percent following the completion of the new terminal. He added that major health projects had been realised, including the 320-bed Nicosia Hospital, investments in Morphou and Kyrenia, and the opening of Pamuklu Hospital. He also announced that the foundation stone for a new hospital in Iskele had been laid.

Economy and Local Government

Highlighting measures taken to support workers and tradespeople in the post-pandemic period, Ustel said numerous investments had been carried out through protocols signed with Turkey. He described the local government reform as positively received and said women would play an important role in the upcoming local elections.
