Turkey’s MoD Denies Reports of Plans to Enter Iran
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has denied claims that Turkey intends to enter Iranian territory for security reasons if the United States attacks Iran. The ministry stated that developments in the region are being closely monitored and that Turkey continues to pursue peaceful solutions.
Following the weekly press briefing at the MSB, officials responded to journalists’ questions, saying: “Some reports in the press and on social media suggesting that Turkey plans to enter Iran in the event of a U.S. attack are not accurate.”
The statement emphasized Turkey’s commitment to resolving regional disputes peacefully and establishing lasting stability. Coordinated measures are being taken by relevant state agencies to address potential risks.
The briefing also touched on broader regional developments. Turkey noted the significance of Syria’s accession as the 90th member of the “Coalition Against ISIS” and the gradual consolidation of government authority in Syria, which is considered a factor in the U.S. reassessing its military presence there. “U.S. activities in Syria and Iraq, like all developments in the region, are being closely followed in coordination with our relevant agencies,” the ministry said.
Regarding Somalia, the MSB highlighted ongoing support for the Somali Armed Forces’ organization and counterterrorism efforts, emphasizing that these activities aim to safeguard Somalia’s economic resources and national interests.
The ministry also addressed speculation about S-400 air defense systems, stating: “As previously announced, the S-400 systems were procured for the operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and are fully operational. There is no plan to deploy S-400s in Somalia. Speculation in media and social platforms should not be relied upon.”
