AKEL and DISY Reach Equal Support, Majority Oppose British Bases

According to the new poll published yesterday, AKEL and DISY are projected to receive the same vote share in upcoming parliamentary elections. Politis and other newspapers reported that the survey, carried out by MRC Cypronetwork Ltd with 1,402 respondents, indicated a rise in support for both AKEL and DIKO.

The report noted that AKEL’s vote share increased from 17.5% in a February survey by the same company to 18% in the latest poll, putting it on par with DISY. ELAM, which ranks third, saw its support drop by half a point from 12% to 11.5%, while DIKO’s support rose from 6.5% to 7.5%.

Other party results include ALMA at 7.5% (down from 8.5%), “Amesi Dimokratia” (Immediate Democracy) at 5.5% (down from 7%), and VOLT at 2.5% (down from 3%). EDEK and the Green Party both remained steady at 2.5%, while “Dimokratiki Parataksi” (Democratic Front) held at 1%. The “Avcılar Hareketi” (Hunters’ Movement) increased to 1% from 0.5%, and the “Animal Rights Party” remained at 0.5%.

Views on War Policy and British Bases

The survey also asked participants about their satisfaction with the Greek Cypriot government’s war policies. Fifty-two percent of respondents said they were “not at all or not very satisfied,” while 43% expressed satisfaction.

Regarding the presence of British bases, 56% of respondents said the bases should be removed from the island, while 38% favored their continued presence.
