Unions Reject Strike Postponement, Vow to Continue Action
Trade unions have رفض the decision to postpone ongoing strikes, declaring they will not recognize the move and will continue their action until the government steps back.
The strikes had been organized by the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (TIP-İŞ), the Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Union (KTHES), the Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants’ Union (KTAMS), the Public Workers’ Union (KAMU-İŞ), and the Cyprus Turkish Public Officials Union (KAMU-SEN).
Speaking on behalf of the unions, TIP-İŞ President Dr. Özlem Gürkut said the decision effectively amounted to a ban on the right to strike. She stated that postponing or prohibiting strikes through administrative decisions undermines fundamental rights.
The unions said that under their joint stance, such decisions would not be recognized and that they would continue to exercise democratic rights, including civil disobedience if necessary.
They stressed that unions in the health sector would maintain the strike with the same determination until the government reverses its decision.
The statement also criticized the government and the Health Ministry over their approach toward union members and professional bodies, saying threats and pressure were unacceptable.
Further details regarding the strike process will be shared with the public and union members in due course.
