“Government And UBP To Define New Roadmap Next Week,” Says Sunat Atun
National Unity Party parliamentary group leader Sunat Atun said the General Assembly will not convene this week, noting that the government and UBP will carry out the necessary meetings in the coming days to determine a clear roadmap in line with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s previously stated framework.
Atun said that during the Advisory Council meeting held this morning at the invitation of Speaker Ziya Öztürkler, the UBP group reiterated the political will expressed by the Prime Minister on Saturday. He added that the party proposed in the Advisory Council that parliamentary work resume next week, and that there was consensus on this proposal.
Following the meeting, Atun told reporters that the government will also conduct its own assessments within the Council of Ministers and in party group meetings, and that from the beginning of next week, parliamentary work is expected to proceed in line with the direction outlined by the Prime Minister.
Atun said that discussions regarding how the process will move forward, including the possibility of returning the draft law to committee, will be evaluated both within the party group and by the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister. He added that if a roadmap is finalized this week, necessary announcements will be made.
Responding to questions about parliamentary security and the presence of military personnel, Atun said he had not noticed such a situation and that any explanation should be provided by the parliamentary administration or the Speaker. Regarding reports of potential general strikes and protests, he said he had no specific information on the matter.
On the possibility of returning the cost-of-living bill to committee, Atun said all options will be evaluated, including the one mentioned, and confirmed that this will be discussed in the group meeting and by the government.
Addressing concerns over government stability, Atun said he had seen statements from some MPs in the press but considered it an internal government matter. He expressed confidence that there would be no breakdown in coalition unity, adding that the Prime Minister is already in consultation with relevant partners.
He concluded by saying that a new roadmap is very likely to emerge next week.
