Erhürman: Calm Prevails in Pile, Coordination Continues With All Authorities
President Tufan Erhürman has said that calm has been restored in Pile following recent developments, stressing that all relevant authorities are working in coordination and that issues will be resolved through dialogue.
Erhürman issued a statement on developments in the Çayhan Düzü area of Pile.
“According to information received from the Security Forces Command, calm prevails in the Çayhan Düzü area as of today, and communication and dialogue are ongoing. This has also been confirmed by the statement issued by the UN Peacekeeping Force.
At this stage, we are in full coordination with all competent authorities in the field of security. There should be no doubt that the Presidency will fully fulfil its responsibilities throughout this process.
It has also become clearer, I believe, how important it was that a non-security-related issue which emerged in the region a few weeks ago was swiftly resolved through political channels.
As the Turkish Cypriot side, we have never supported escalation, nor will we. Despite attempts to heighten tensions through statements from the south and through inaccurate reporting and commentary in the media, it should be known that we will not be part of such efforts.
Problems will be resolved with composure, determination, dialogue and diplomacy.”
