Transport Ministry Warns Over Fake SMS Scam
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has warned that SMS messages sent under the name of the Turkish General Directorate of Highways (KGM) from “+44” and other international country codes are part of a fraud attempt.
In a statement, the ministry said that messages requesting payment and containing links such as “https://kgm.lqegwj.click/secure/gov-tr” are scams.
The public has been urged not to trust such messages, not to click on any links included, and not to share any personal or banking information.
An example of the fraudulent message reads:
“Dear vehicle owners, General Directorate of Highways (KGM) Traffic Fine Reminder. Dear customer, your speeding violation recorded through road radar and camera inspections has been registered in our official database. If the relevant fine is not paid, your traffic record will be negatively affected. Please complete the payment within the deadline. For official inquiry and payment, visit: https://kgm.lqegwj.click/secure/gov-tr Please reply ‘Y’ to reopen the message in Safari browser and activate the link. Billing Institution: KMG Invoice No: 385274169 Amount: ₺73.13 Last Payment Date: 26.04.2026”
