TEKNOFEST KKTC to Bring Science and Technology to the Public on 1–4 May

TEKNOFEST KKTC, the first of its kind in Northern Cyprus, will take place from 1 to 4 May at the former Ercan Airport in Nicosia under the auspices of the TRNC Presidency. The event, organised by Turkey’s Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation), aims to bring science and technology closer to society.

The festival will host several Turkish institutions including the Turkish Space Agency, KOSGEB, development agencies, the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and the Turkish Standards Institute. These institutions will showcase a wide range of projects spanning defence, artificial intelligence, space research, and domestic production technologies through exhibitions and workshops.

TÜBİTAK to Lead Interactive Scientific Activities

The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) will engage visitors through two thematic pavilions. Participating bodies include BİLGEM, MAM, RUTE, SAGE, UME, UZAY, and BİTO, which will offer scientific content, experimental workshops, technological applications, and quizzes for all age groups.

Eighty-six finalist teams from primary school to university level will present their projects, with evaluations taking place over the first three days in four jury rooms. Eight teams from Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Northern Cyprus, and Afghanistan will compete, with approximately 260 students presenting their projects.

The "Beyond the Horizon" exhibition, curated by BİTO, will highlight space experiments by Turkey’s first astronauts, Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever. It will also feature items used in space missions, interactive displays, and photo zones.

Over 47,000 Applications from 22 Countries

TEKNOFEST KKTC received more than 47,000 applications from 22 countries, including Germany, Australia, Egypt, Sudan, and Uzbekistan. A total of 268 teams and 1,083 participants were selected as finalists, including 334 women and 749 men. The competitions will span six main and thirteen subcategories, such as Social Innovation, Flying Car Simulation, Tourism Technologies, TEKNOFEST Robolig Blue Homeland, and TEKNOFEST Drone Championship.

Finalist teams from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Northern Cyprus, Pakistan, and Turkey will compete, with 20 finalist teams and 103 participants representing the TRNC.

Air shows by SOLOTÜRK, Turkish Stars, F-4 fighter jets, ATAK helicopters, HÜRKUŞ, Bayraktar TB2, and AKINCI will be among the festival highlights.
