Following the meeting, Tatar told reporters he had reminded Holguin of her reappointment after the 5+1 talks in March, which had ended with a mutual understanding. He criticised the Greek Cypriot administration for what he described as an unexpected and unacceptable escalation over property issues ahead of the next round of 5+1 talks in July.

“This tension created by the Greek Cypriot side is deeply troubling for the TRNC,” said Tatar, adding that he had urged Holguin to raise the issue with the UN Secretary-General directly.

Tatar also said he had discussed the matter with Ankara earlier in the day and noted that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had brought up the same concerns in his meeting with Holguin.

Emphasising efforts for a proactive approach to manage the process, Tatar ended his statement by extending Bayram greetings to the public. He also announced that a Bayram reception will be held Friday morning at the new Presidential Complex with the participation of protocol officials and the public.
