Tatar: Christodoulides Responsible for Putting Cyprus in Danger

President Ersin Tatar has accused Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides of dragging the island of Cyprus into a conflict zone amid the escalating crisis between Israel and Iran.

In a written statement, Tatar said that Christodoulides’ recent military agreements, armament efforts, and unilateral actions with foreign powers have jeopardized the island’s security. “I have warned him repeatedly. These actions endanger the entire island,” he said. “His reckless steps have drawn Cyprus into an indirect threat zone. This situation alarms not only the Turkish Cypriots but also the Greek Cypriot community.”
Tatar emphasized that, since the onset of the conflict, he has been in constant consultation with military and security officials, assuring the public that all necessary precautions are in place.
He also issued a direct appeal to Christodoulides: “Stop acting as if only the Greek Cypriot community exists, and as if you have authority over the whole island. The Turkish Cypriot people, their state, their flag, and the unwavering support of the Republic of Turkey are here.”
Tatar concluded by stressing that the security and stability of Cyprus can only be ensured through mutual respect and cooperation between the two equal peoples. “There is one undeniable reality: Cyprus cannot be made safe through unilateral measures that ignore the Turkish Cypriot side. True peace and security can only be achieved through joint efforts and the consent of both states on the island.”
