OIC Calls for Greater Engagement with Turkish Cypriots, End to Unjust Isolation

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reiterated the need for a fair, lasting, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue and called for increased engagement with Turkish Cypriots.

In the Istanbul Declaration issued at the conclusion of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ 51st Session, the organisation underlined the importance of overcoming what it described as the unjust isolation imposed on Muslim Turkish Cypriots.
The declaration reaffirmed the OIC’s principled stance on respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states. It also stressed that enhanced contact with Turkish Cypriots is essential to help secure their natural rights and address their ongoing marginalisation in the international arena.
The OIC called for a solution in Cyprus based on mutual agreement and negotiation, while urging its member states to strengthen ties with the Turkish Cypriot community in line with principles of justice and solidarity.
