Foreign Passenger Arrivals to TRNC Down 2.7% in Early 2025

The number of foreign passengers—excluding Turkish citizens—arriving in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) via air and sea ports decreased by 2.7 percent during the January-April 2025 period.

Official data show that the total number of passengers entering the TRNC, excluding those with TRNC nationality, rose by 15.7 percent to 720,190. However, this increase is attributed entirely to Turkish nationals, while arrivals from third countries declined.
According to data compiled from the Police General Directorate by the Ministry of Tourism, 100,589 foreign passengers entered the country in the four-month period, representing 2,770 fewer arrivals compared to the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the number of Turkish citizens arriving increased by 19.2 percent, nearing 620,000.
German and Israeli Nationals
The figures indicate that German nationals formed the largest group among foreign passengers arriving by air and sea. In terms of growth rate, Israeli nationals recorded the highest increase. Notably, there was a significant decline in the number of passengers from Iran, Russia, and Ukraine compared to last year.
Among the 100,589 foreign passengers, 11,249 held German passports, ranking first. Despite a 17 percent decrease, Iranian nationals ranked second with 11,421 arrivals, followed by Russian nationals with 9,274 arrivals, down 15 percent from the previous year.
Israeli nationals saw a record 131 percent increase, rising from 991 to 2,290 arrivals, marking a notable development. Arrivals of Israeli citizens via land border crossings also rose by 64 percent, from 12,821 to 21,066.
Notable Increases from Worker-Sending Countries
Passengers from countries that have supplied thousands of workers to the TRNC in recent years showed significant increases. Arrivals from Pakistan rose by 12.4 percent to 4,552, while arrivals from Turkmenistan increased by 20.3 percent to 3,237. A 126 percent increase in Turkmen nationals was also recorded in 2024.
The number of arrivals from the United Kingdom grew by 32.4 percent, rising from 5,250 to 6,952. Meanwhile, the number of Turkish Cypriots holding British passports declined by 10.5 percent.
