27 Fires in One Week Cause Over 1.2 Million TL in Damages

A total of 27 fires were reported across the TRNC in the past week, causing approximately 1,225,000 TL in damages, according to a report by the Fire Department covering the period from 23–29 June.

The fires were attributed to several likely causes, including:

Cigarette butts discarded without being extinguished

Electrical short circuits

Sparks from electrical wires falling onto dry grass

Fuel leaks in vehicle engines igniting on hot surfaces

Sparks from angle grinders setting fire to dry grass

Unextinguished coal embers igniting vegetation

Chemical reactions involving hair bleach

Intentional arson
In addition to firefighting duties, the department responded to 21 other incidents classified as “special services.” These included:

Taking fire precautions

Rescuing individuals trapped in elevators

Providing fire safety training

Extracting people trapped in vehicles after traffic accidents

Rescuing a person who had fallen into an empty 3-meter-deep pool

Rescuing a chicken from a water well

Escorting deceased individuals to the hospital for forensic examination
Authorities urged the public to take extra care, especially during the dry summer months, to avoid preventable fires.
