Hasipoğlu: We Are Recognised as a State in the OTS

Speaking on the Manşet+ programme on Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (BRTK), Hasipoğlu made key remarks on current political developments.

Emphasising the “vital” nature of the relationship between Turkey and the TRNC, Hasipoğlu noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, contacts with Ankara have continued uninterrupted. “We signed a Financial Cooperation Protocol with Turkey worth 21 billion TL,” he said. “Coordinating this cooperation is of great importance.”

He added that during the summer period, the government would increase its engagement with the public: “We will personally visit our citizens to deliver good news.”

Referring to the TRNC’s observer status in the Organization of Turkic States, Hasipoğlu said the TRNC is accepted as a state within the OTS. He underlined that participation in the meetings as an observer member is significant in terms of international visibility and expressed hope that full international recognition would eventually follow.

“The Greek Cypriot Administration Is Trying to Steal the Spotlight”

Hasipoğlu stressed the need for peace and stability on the island and criticised the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) for attempting to bypass both Turkey and the TRNC. “The Greek Cypriot side is trying to steal the spotlight,” he said. “But Turkey is responding appropriately. The Greek Cypriot Administration's interlocutor is the TRNC.”

He described Turkey’s policy on Cyprus as “a process conducted with great care and precision.”
