Turkey Records Hottest July in 55 Years with Average Temperature of 26.9°C

According to data from Turkey’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, July 2025 was the hottest July in the country in the last 55 years, with an average temperature reaching 26.9 degrees Celsius. In Silopi district of Şırnak province, a new July temperature record was set at 50.5 degrees Celsius.

The ministry released the July 2025 Temperature Assessment Report prepared by the General Directorate of Meteorology.

The report highlighted a 1.9-degree increase in July’s average temperature compared to previous years, marking it as the hottest July in Turkey’s recent history.

Out of 220 meteorological stations used in the climate evaluation, 66 recorded new temperature records. The district of Cizre in Şırnak topped the list of stations with record temperatures.

In Cizre, the average July temperature was noted at 49.1 degrees Celsius, rising to 49.4 degrees Celsius last month.

Separately, the report recalled that Silopi district, also in Şırnak, recorded 50.5 degrees Celsius, breaking the national July temperature record beyond the 220 stations used in the analysis.
