In a social media statement, Erhurman rejected Üstel’s criticism regarding “state seriousness” and “constitutional conventions,” saying he had never liked April 1 jokes and found them forced and often poor in taste.

“Mr. Üstel is calling on me for ‘seriousness,’ ‘respect for the rule of law,’ and ‘not creating a crisis of confidence.’ Coming from him, this sounds like a bad April 1 joke,” Erhurman said.

He added that April 1 would pass, stressing that there is significant work ahead for the country and its youth, and that there is no time to waste on what he described as “bad jokes.”
