İncirli: Northern Cyprus Ranks 159th in Corruption Perceptions Index
CTP leader Sıla Usar İncirli said Northern Cyprus has fallen to 159th place among 180 countries in a corruption perceptions report, citing a 10-point decline over the past five years.
In a statement referencing criteria by Transparency International, İncirli said corruption and bribery had moved beyond perception, creating deep public distrust. She noted that many citizens believe they cannot resolve issues without bribery or favoritism, leading to growing frustration and anger.
İncirli accused the government of attempting to divert attention from its own shortcomings, arguing that the public is increasingly aware of the situation. “The people want change,” she said, adding that confidence in governance has been significantly eroded.
She stressed that the findings reflect a broader deterioration in institutional trust and accountability, warning that the trend has serious implications for the country’s political and social stability.
