Youth Technical Committee Raises EU Rights, Mixed Marriages And Isolation In Brussels Talks
The Youth Technical Committee carried out a working visit to Brussels on 10–11 June 2026 under the auspices of the United Nations and at the invitation of the European Union, holding a series of high-level meetings focused on issues affecting young people in Cyprus.
During the visit, the committee met EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, held talks with representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, and conducted a video conference with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative for Cyprus María Ángela Holguín.
The discussions focused on strengthening dialogue between the two communities, building mutual understanding, and contributing to confidence-building efforts.
Members of the committee raised a range of concerns affecting Turkish Cypriot youth, including problems arising from mixed marriages, restrictions in sports due to isolation measures, and limited access to European Union rights.
They also highlighted broader daily-life difficulties experienced by young people and stressed the need for practical steps to address these issues within the framework of intercommunal engagement and international cooperation.
