Akpınar: DP Will Run with Its Own Presidential Candidate
Democratic Party (DP) MP Serhat Akpınar has announced that the party will field its own candidate in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for October.
Speaking on the BRT program Burası Önemli, hosted by Levent Kutay, Akpınar commented on recent political developments in the country and shared insights into the party’s position.
Akpınar stated that the DP is closely monitoring the recent political process, particularly the developments triggered by proposed changes to the party’s disciplinary regulations. He stressed that the Constitution provides clear guidance on the matter.
Addressing the forthcoming presidential election, Akpınar confirmed that the Democratic Party will participate with its own candidate. He revealed that former DP leader Serdar Denktaş is expected to publicly announce his intentions in the first week of May.
Akpınar noted that in recent discussions, Serdar Denktaş indicated he does not wish to return to active politics as a member of parliament but has not ruled out a presidential bid. “He said he might run in the presidential election and asked for our support,” Akpınar stated.
