Tibuk: Cyprus Is the Only Place Where Bigotry Will Not Work

Besim Tibuk, Chairman of the Board of Net Holding, stated that "Cyprus is the only place where bigotry will not work." He emphasized that the people of Cyprus are a civilized nation and noted that the only Muslim community where bigotry cannot take root is the Turkish Cypriot community.

In an interview on the "Tourism Is Life" program, hosted by İsmet Esenyel, Tibuk called on the people living in Cyprus to "not let things bother you and enjoy the life in Cyprus."
Tibuk observed that people coming from Turkey have adapted to the environment in Cyprus, and he stated that very few people try to stir up trouble with issues like the headscarf crisis, but those efforts will not be effective.
He pointed out that certain individuals in Ankara create artificial crises to please President Erdogan, and he advised, "Do not let this bother you," urging them to "enjoy life in Cyprus."
Living in Cyprus Is a Privilege
Tibuk emphasized that every Turkish Cypriot should know that living in Cyprus is a privilege. He highlighted that the country's democracy, the independence of the judiciary, the presence of a free press, and the natural beauty of the island are the most obvious indicators of this privilege.
Tibuk noted that everyone coming from Turkey feels relieved upon arriving in Cyprus and often describes it as "paradise," adding that this alone demonstrates the privilege of living in Cyprus.
He also mentioned that tourism could save Cyprus and that an economic system based on the service sector could easily be established. Tibuk pointed out that Cyprus has everything it needs for tourism, including the "location, climate, and natural beauty," and by organizing these elements, everything could be achieved.
Tibuk further stated that the tourism sector will continue to develop. Comparing Cyprus with similar locations, he said that as luxury facilities, fine restaurants, golf courses, and casinos are provided to serve the incoming tourists, the number of visitors will increase.
Let’s Not Forget the Importance of an Independent Judiciary
Tibuk emphasized the importance of an independent judiciary in Cyprus, noting that "Cypriots are not aware of the importance of an independent judiciary because they haven’t lost it." He also highlighted that the presence of an independent judiciary is crucial for the existence of an independent press.
He added that the atmosphere in Cyprus is a legacy of British rule and noted that the developments observed today are a reflection of the independent judiciary created by the British.
