Ersin Tatar Officially Files Presidential Candidacy, Pledges to “Win Again”

President Ersin Tatar has formally submitted his candidacy for re-election to the Supreme Election Council, expressing confidence that he will secure another victory with the support of the people.

Tatar presented his application to Supreme Election Council Secretary-General Neşe Başkan, accompanied by his wife Sibel Tatar. The ceremony began with a wreath-laying at the Atatürk Monument, followed by a moment of silence and the national anthem, after which Tatar led a procession to the courthouse area for a press conference.
He was joined by Prime Minister and UBP leader Ünal Üstel, Deputy Prime Minister and DP leader Fikri Ataoğlu, Yeniden Doğuş Partisi leader and Public Works and Transport Minister Erhan Arıklı, as well as party members and supporters carrying KKTC, Turkish, and “Ersin Tatar” flags and chanting slogans.
Speaking to reporters, Tatar said he had successfully completed his five-year term as president and was ready to continue serving with renewed energy:
“We have taken historic steps during our term — steps that strengthened our state and allowed us to be recognized internationally. From membership in the Organization of Turkic States to our visits to Azerbaijan, we have represented our people with pride. Today, the TRNC is a strong, respected, and dignified state with solid infrastructure.”
Tatar emphasized that his presidency paved the way for major initiatives even though the office itself is not an executive role. He highlighted investments made during challenging times such as the pandemic and economic crises, stressing that development continued with strong support from Turkey.
He vowed to continue pursuing effective diplomacy, resist concessions to the Greek Cypriot side, and oppose federation-based solutions, stating that the focus would remain on sovereignty, independence, and ending international isolation.
“We will continue to work with Turkey’s full support, strengthen relations with Turkic states, and push for our rightful place in the world. On election night, we will once again celebrate victory,” Tatar declared.
The president concluded by thanking his wife for her patience and support, as well as all citizens backing his campaign, and promised to remain close to the people throughout the election period and beyond.
