Christodoulides: A Substantive And Lasting Solution Lies In A Comprehensive Settlement Of The Cyprus Problem
Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides has said that claims concerning former Greek Cypriot properties in the TRNC can only be conclusively resolved through a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.
According to Haravgi and other newspapers, Christodoulides made the remarks at an event held yesterday, stressing that the misuse of former Greek Cypriot immovable properties in the TRNC cannot be addressed in isolation.
He underlined that “the substantive and lasting solution is a comprehensive resolution of the Cyprus problem,” adding that the issue should be handled on the basis of international law and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Christodoulides stated that his message was “not intended as a threat,” but rather a call. He said he was urging the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey to demonstrate political will and return to the negotiating table in order to bring an end to what he described as 51 years of illegality through a settlement of the Cyprus issue.
