Serdar Denktaş: The First Weapon to Protect Our Right to Life Must Be the Law
Former Democratic Party (DP) leader Serdar Denktaş drew attention to the property issue, stressing, “The first weapon to protect our right to life must be the law.” Denktaş criticized the lack of concrete action by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey in response to recent decisions taken by the Greek Cypriot Administration, stating that no effective steps had been taken.
In a statement shared via social media, Denktaş warned that some of the proposals put forward by certain circles were only deepening the deadlock and turning into warmongering rhetoric.
“There is, in fact, a concluded case. It is the duty of our state to take this case to appeal with a strong legal defense,” he said, adding that the case should, depending on the outcome, be brought before international courts.
Denktaş also referenced the property provisions of the Annan Plan, noting that although the plan was never implemented, its status as a United Nations proposal makes it a viable element for legal defense.
He concluded his remarks with a firm call: “The first and most important weapon to protect our right to life must be the law.”
